Discussion

The weak La Niña condition persists this season from August to October and will likely continue to December 2022. The long rainy season ends and the long dry season commences in mid-August. However, extreme wet spell are still possible during the season. The season will be wetter than normal, and low-lying areas are still at risk for flooding during an extreme wet spell. Suriname experienced widespread disastrous flooding during March – June 2022. The rainfall totals decreased since May 2022. Statistically, May and June are the wettest months of the year, but for 2022, the monthly rainfall totals for these months did not exceed the long term monthly mean rainfall. The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will be located above the Atlantic Ocean during the Dry Season. The temperatures will be cooler to normal.

Climate Advisory

The long dry Season commences mid August. However, keep maintaining drains in the neighborhoods and around crop beds. Extreme wet spells are still possible during the season. Conserve water during the dry season.. Humans, plant and animal require more water usage than normal during this period.
